Songs that demonstrate the Scales as melody

Songs that demonstrate the Scales as melody

1. Joy to the World by George Frederic Handel uses D Major

The very well known Christmas carol Joy to the World is unique because it’s very instructional.

It features the D Major scale also known as D Ionian Mode

The notes are numbered to help you see what the position is in an eight note scale.

The following chart of the song I publish through my own publishing company called Leadsheetz.com

I’ve included a lot of information on this simple melody. Starting at the top is the degree or position in the scale. The second line shows the solfege.

The next line shows what fingers work well. This is exactly what is recomended for learning a scale like D Major.

Next is the staff that reveals the time signature and the key signature with the melody notated with the rhythm and the notes that make the famous melody with the vertical lines that represent the measures that add up to two beats each.
